define:bpm - beats per minute, the unit of measure that defines the tempo of music.

This is an Exclusive enhancement made to ACAPELLAS4U - the bpm data is only a vailable to 'Special' members - who have mande donations to support what we do here and to members with what we consider to be a half-decent post count.

Thanks to the amazing FREE BPM Analyzer tool from our friends at Mixmeister and Taner (Freelancer PHP/MySQL) we've been able to carry out this much sought-after request from our members.

Hope you all enjoy this new addition.

Regards,

acapella.

....you're a mad, mad, mad man...

and it's a mad world we live in these days...

...executable files!!!! eeeeek! *runs in sheer terror* i know i'm lazy but i don't think the analyzer is mac friendly. That said i reckon if it's put into soundtrack or loop utility it'll pick the bpm up pronto.

if anyone else has either of those two on their mac and want to try it and report back would be cool....i'd do it but king kong just trashed my room and tinkerbell is having a fit.

Nice addition, thanks. Here's a couple of questions:
1. I usually know the BPM of the 'pella I'm uploading, and it's often different to that which is reported by Mixmeister. Can we have an (optional) field on the upload form into which we can enter accurate BPMs?

2. What's the appropriate mechanism for reporting inaccurate BPMs?

3. Why do my questions sound so officious?

I agree with otg

i have been working for some time trying to manage my acapellas with bpm. The problem is that these programs look for peaks in audio files to create bpm attributes

I use virtual dj to mix my tracks, and the good thing about this is that when, the track is in sync, i can copy the bpm from the base track ( track with solid beat ) to the acapella, reset the acapella to default and this give the actual true bpm of the acapella

i would love to share the actual bpm of the tracks i work with to the site, but in order for this to work you would have to have a suggested bpm section which allows ( forum supporters - frequent providers ) to post corrections

....hence the emoticon to show that you shouldn't take it so seriously.

He wasn't passing judgement. if THAT was criticism then most of what i say is probably borderlining dictatorship (or something silly like that)

Chillax, it's only the interwebz.

Smilie_PDT = Tongue in cheek. In other ways means a joke with an essence of truth. In this instance, do what most others would do.

adieu to modding duties = farewell/goodbye to modding duties.

To clarify, it means I'm no longer a Moderator, but the badge is still there until I get restored as a normal member. Why? Because I have enjoyed the (accidental) break from it and don't wish to return. It's a position that takes up considerable time, responsibility, and is mostly unappreciated by many. It also restricts what I want to say and how I want to say it.

So there we go.

Good idea to implement unfortunately The analyzer is not always accurate. In fact I've been using it for awhile now and here's my final analysis

1) It works great for programmed drum loops and songs with programmed drums and that's about it great for house, breaks, some hip hop downtempo etc
2) It is virtually useless for bpming acapellas unless it's a diy with faint drums in the back but I wouldn't trust the results in other words never use it to bpm your pellas!
3) It does not work very well on songs with live drums unless the drums are very loud in the mix
4) It will often be mistaken on what you would think would be a easy 4-4 song
much like Ableton's warper lol

Personally for me the best way to measure the bpm on your pellas is to download any number of free tap algorithm bpm counters I use Winbpm shareware
It's about as easy a tool to use as it gets
You listen to your pella and tap the keyboard to the tempo you think it is it gets a hell of a lot closer to the true bpm than Mixmeister that's all I know haha Smilie_PDT

Sick analyzer. But again, is there a way to report that the analyzer is off. I've got a few acapellas that I have beatmapped (once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy on acid), and a few of the aca's that say a bpm on here aren't correct. Mad props for making our job easier Aca4U! Thanks, but I think we should let you know if some of them are off. Either way, a great item for the site!!

Thanks for the props Smilie_PDT

As of yet there is no system to cater for members amending or even adding their BPM data to the database. Rome wasn't built in a day Smilie_PDT
